There are situations where upgrading skills independently is not a viable option. In these cases, there is a need to provide training courses that can fill gaps or new usable skills. This is the case of the Municipality of Milan, which was involved in the innovation of the Bollate Prison’s print shop.

OpenDot and Zerografica, the print shop in the Bollate prison in Milan, introduced production experiments to innovate the printing sector for prison economy development.

A 3D printer and training course to learn how to use it were provided. OpenDot makers lectured prisoners on modelling principles and the process of making new products. It lasted three months and involved the installation of a 3D printer inside the print shop, including the construction of a specially designed object combinations and staff training on 3D modelling and printing.
