Leonardo is a 10-year-old boy born without four fingers on his right hand, but with a fully functional thumb. His physical limitation has never negatively affected his relational life. Last summer, however, Leo saw a boy with a prosthesis and asked his parents for one for his hand.
As a big fan of superheroes, at the first meeting with OpenDot Leo presented himself with paper on which he had designed his robotic hand inspired by Spiderman and Ironman, with colour and relief details.
With E-Nable portal that collects aids for people with physical limitations available in open-source mode, downloadable and printable in 3D, OpenDot re-adapted the original Unlimbited Phoenix Hand project to implement Leonardo's design.
The model was modified to fit his hand to make room for his thumb, and the mechanical operation allows natural movement when grasping objects.
