Since 2014, OpenDot has been hosting the Fab Academy - leading digital fabrication course from the worldwide Fab Lab network. The intensive six-month course is held from January to June and is divided between lectures given by Neil Gershenfeld from MIT Boston via videoconference and hands-on activities at our Fab Lab.
The “Guru” is Enrico Bassi, OpenDot coordinator, university lecturer at NABA, Domus Academy, SUPSI, LABA, University of Bologna and University of Parma, and a Fab Academy student in 2014.
The instructor is Antonio Garosi, OpenDot maker and developer who graduated the Fab Academy in 2018.
The Fab Academy trains students who can contribute to the global network comprising almost 2000 Fab Labs worldwide, so they can acquire practical skills, learn a methodology to handle complex problems and develop a project from the idea to the finished product quickly. During the six months at OpenDot, participants learn how to imagine, prototype and document their ideas through several hours of hands-on experience with new technologies and digital fabrication tools including programming, electronics design, 3D printing and composite material processing. The course leads participants to a thorough understanding of digital fabrication and its uses in their own and others' projects. This way, they can exploit it independently in their career.
