Digitalisation is pervading and improving the most technological and advanced manufacturing sectors, supporting the development and deployment of new machinery, creating processes that were impossible before.
The DIGITbrain project challenge enables small and medium-sized companies to digitally produce customised dentures by developing a digital twin.
In manufacturing 4.0, a “digital twin” of a physical machine, process or product can be created and its operation can be simulated. By using a digital twin, companies can streamline and optimise production processes.
DIGITbrain wants to go a step further by developing a “Digital Product Brain”, a software that will store data throughout a production line or machine life cycle.
DIGITbrain allows data collection through digital twins to optimise the production of medical devices, i.e., set up machines, optimise 3D printing times and consumption, and produce more detailed and customised products, even in small quantities, and lowering production costs.
The project, financed by the European Horizon2020 ProMed programme and carried out in partnership with CNR in Genoa, IMATI and Premet, enables small and medium-sized enterprises to introduce a new distributed model of advanced and specialised manufacturing called “Manufacturing as a Service.”
OpenDot developed the web interface for the integration of production process simulation and cost prediction tools to increase the functionality and performance of the Digital Brain in the dental prosthesis industry. The programme is a breakthrough for the digital twin market in healthcare, enabling the democratisation and increased use of technology for the dental sector.
