Careables.org is an open-source platform that enables the co-creation of customized devices for care and well-being. Through a participatory approach and the contribution of designers, makers, and end users, the project supports the development of accessible and globally replicable solutions. OpenDot plays a key role in integrating digital manufacturing technologies and creating a collaborative network that promotes *Design for Care*, making healthcare more inclusive and innovative. The result of a European project developed under the EU Horizon 2020 program in collaboration with seven European partners: Fondazione TOG (IT), Zentrum für Sozial Innovation (A), Waag Society (NL), Global Innovation Gathering (D), Fab Lab Berlin (D), Wevolver (UK), and KU Leuven Centre for IT&IP Law (BE).

When there is a lack of solutions on the market, people look mostly online and self build objects that can significantly improve their quality of life.

The platform gathers stories, projects and low-cost, customisable solutions, that are fully documented so that they can be replicated and accessed by the largest number of people. Careables.org creates an extended community to innovate healthcare through the participation of designers, caregivers, people with disabilities and citizens so they can produce careables, i.e., Design for Care objects that look after people. A careable is a co-designed digitally fabricated object with and for people, which can be replicated, and embraces the open-source philosophy. "Nothing about us, without us."
